Rep. Vernon Smith
Rep Vernon Smith
On Jan. 12th, 2006 just before the State of the Judiciary Address, Speaker Bosma opened the House of Rep. for the purpose of conducting official business. He then asked Rep. Vernon Smith to speak on the upcoming Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. I was highly impressed with Rep. Smith’s boldness and clear testimony for Jesus Christ. I am inserting an excerpt of his speech so you know how to pray for him and his continued boldness in proclaiming Christ. Prior to this quote, Rep. Smith was telling about the decree from King Nebuchadnezzar resulting in the three Hebrew children being thrown into the fiery furnace. He also referenced Luke 17:33. His speech was entitled “Don’t Let Go of What You Believe”.

“…Isn’t it ironic that at this point of time, during this session, that today we are under a decree of the court? And I ask all of us, are we willing to stand behind what we believe? Today, I declare, that I believe and trust in the Almighty God - the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. I believe that when Adam sinned and we were disconnected from God, that God had a plan from the foundation of the earth, to reunite us back to Him, through His Son, Jesus Christ. I declare to you today that I believe that Jesus is the Son of God, born of a virgin, who took off His crown in glory, took off His robe in glory, and stepped through forty-two generations to come down here to save us. I believe that! I believe that He died for my sins and He died for your sins and I have accepted His blood, and by His blood I am saved. And because of this, I believe that I am an heir of God and that I am a joint-heir of Jesus Christ…I further believe that the Scripture says that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Christ is Lord, and no one will get to the Father accept through the Son. This is what I believe and I won’t let go of what I believe…”
